September Update!

Hey everyone!

It’s been awhile since I have posted anything on here, so I thought I would give an update for any of you who want to know what’s happening!

University started on the 8th for me and it’s been pretty good so far! I am taking four classes this semester. Three are Media Studies classes while the other is a Digital Media class. The Digital Media class is by far my favorite because it’s my JavaScript class. 😀 I worked with basic JavaScript last year, but it’s really been since Fall 2009 semester when I was really focusing on it. Spring 2010 was all about PHP, MySQL, databased, etc. and a little JavaScript. So I’m glad to be focusing on it again and I will be learning AJAX, going further into the power of JavaScript. Three other students in the class and myself have worked with JavaScript before, so though we will still be a part of the class, we are going to work as a team on a project together this semester so that we’re getting challenged enough. I’m really excited for this, and I will keep you all posted on the progress that we make.

My other classes are Media Studies classes and they’re pretty good so far. They’re more theory/reading/discussion type courses. Though they aren’t my favorite (coding courses will always be my favorite!) I think that I will still learn a lot from them. 🙂

Next semester I will be taking another couple Media Studies classes, and two Digital Media classes, one of which is a video class, and the other will be a directed study where I will be focusing back on PHP and working further with WordPress. I’ve been working with WordPress on my own (which you can see), but with my directed study I will be going in behind the scenes of WordPress to really learn how it works, and dip into plugins.

For those of you who don’t know, I am also working for VIU’s student newspaper The Navigator. I gave the website a fresh look for volume 42 this year. I do the bi-weekly updates, and maintain it. I am also working for VIU’s Digital Media/Media Studies department, doing any web development work the department needs done.

As well, I have another something in the works, but I’m going to leave it at that for now. It’s school-related and nothing will be official for probably a couple months or more. Until then I can only say – kangaroos!

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great summer! Mine was busy busy and I didn’t get everything accomplished that I wanted to get done – that’s what the holidays in December will be for! None of my courses this semester require me to blog weekly like last year, but I’ll try to do one or two posts a month, more if time allows.

Feel free to comment below or drop me a line! And to get all my more frequent updates, don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and Twitter.

Ciao for now!
